Real estate salespeople in New Brunswick must be employed by a real estate agency or firm. If a salesperson lists and sells a property, the commission is paid to the agency who then splits the amount with that salesperson. A wide range of compensation plans exist. In order to be a licensed Realtor, you must take the New Brunswick Real Estate Association's Licensing course and the current cost is $1500 plus HST. In addition, to be licensed in the Saint John area you must become a member of the New Brunswick Real Estate Association and the Canadian Real Estate Association, and pay their initiation fee and annual dues. You must also become a member of the Saint John Real Estate Board, and pay the initiation fee and monthly membership dues.
